Amos Fly Ash Pond Closure

Location: Charleston, WV
Project Completion Date: July 2014
Client: R. B. Jergens/ American Electric Power
Carylon Operating Company: Metropolitan Environmental Services

Metropolitan utilized a 12″ cutter suction dredge to hydraulically dredge approximately 500,000 CY of fly ash to create a series of channels on this pond closure project. Metropolitan strategically placed the dredged sediments throughout the pond to facilitate follow-up capping.  By adjusting the contours of fly ash pond, Metropolitan and R.B Jergens were able to expedite the pond draining and drying process.  Metropolitan utilized real time dredging software and GPS to achieve dredge elevations to within +/- 6 inches of the proposed depths.
